ABOUT
John is a TV Editor based in Los Angeles. His work has appeared on Netflix, Disney+, The National Geographic Channel, The Discovery Channel, A&E, History Channel, and many others. He brings a love of storytelling and rhythm to every cut. Experienced in promos, short-form, and full length TV episodes, attention to detail and relentless service is the foundation of his approach. All this, with a spirit of creativity and optimism.

Way back, he first fell in love with editing in his final years of college. Majoring in English Literature at William and Mary, with plans to go into journalism, he instead discovered filmmaking as his true passion. Inspired by experimental classics from Stan Brakhage, Luis Buñuel, and Sergei Eisenstein he produced his first short films and soon learned that the act of the edit is the crux of audio/visual storytelling. It allows for more complex plots, characters, and suspense. Editing is what grabs and holds the attention of an audience, enabling the flow of ideas and emotions to build throughout a piece.
Whether it's experimental cinema or corporate marketing videos, the editor and their ability to communicate a message, a series of plot points, and emotions, will make or break any production.

It was with that inspirational knowledge, and a pair of rose-colored glasses, that John landed his first job in the industry... typing credits on a chyron. It sounds boring (and it was) but it put him on an Avid workstation. Twenty-two and happy to be working and learning, he quickly extrapolated his technical skills on Avid into the creative skills needed to start cutting promos. His work appeared on more and more networks, and his editing chops increased to the point where he was ready to widen his filmmaking skillset. He started making short documentaries and marketing videos as a one man band - writing, scheduling, filming, and of course... editing.
After that, a big move - dedicating two years to study filmmaking at a larger scale, he earned an MFA in Film Production from Florida State University. This was a time to explore the elements of audio/visual storytelling, continuing to develop his unique voice - not only as an editor, but as a director, cinematographer, and producer in a group of creative people working toward one goal.

In the next phase of his career, John brought what he learned about storytelling as a writer, director, and cinematographer and incorporated it back into his work as an editor - not only cutting promos and short-form content, but now also cutting full length episodes for television networks like Discovery Channel, History Channel, Oxygen, Discovery ID, A&E and others. All while continuing to develop his roots as a promo / trailer editor, with his work featured on Netflix, National Geographic, Discovery, and many others.
In his free time, he enjoys teaching an annual editing workshop at Georgetown University, traveling to new places with family, taking photos, wood-working, and gardening.
